The New FB Gold Silk is a heavyweight (in every sense of the word) amongst papers and is an exceptional product within Permajet’s Baryta range. This warm, very slightly textured paper not only emulates traditional darkroom characteristics, but it also exudes a quality and sophistication demanded by the digital age. The harmonious fusion of rich distinctive blacks, together with creamy whites represent a vitality and tonal precision that will undoubtedly attract the most discerning of photographers. Put simply, a class leading paper, unrivalled by its contemporaries.

FB Gold Silk has been my first choice paper since it was introduced and the updated version does not disappoint. Using the same custom profile it delivered good colour with a lovely smooth finish. I have read that it has a very high d max but I'm not that technical - I just saw very crisp clean black, giving good contrast which made the image sparkle. The paper has a slightly warm colour, ideal for people pictures in mono and colour and, whilst I wouldn't describe the surface as "silk" it has a very nice "gentle" gloss, reminiscent of fondly remembered darkroom prints. Still my favourite paper for 90% of my prints!

When I first heard that the original Gold Silk was to be discontinued I must admit I was disappointed as it's been my first choice for colour printing for the last 5 years. But I needn't have worried - the new version is every bit as good! I've printed identical images on the new & old versions & I really cannot tell any discernible difference and that is high praise indeed. I can rest easy - my favourite paper lives on!
