About Ger

Ger Mulhall is a native of Ireland and a retired Firefighter/Paramedic from County Meath. Ger came to photography from a background in painting – he would take photos of rural Irish scenes to paint at a later date. Slowly over time and after a camera upgrade, the photography took over completely.

At first he concentrated on landscapes but in the last 8 years or so he has turned to mainly portraits with a more fine art style. The artistic background has heavily influenced his photographic style, a lot of his work involves pre-conceived composite type creative portraits with a painterly feel.

As a member of Dundalk Photographic society, Ger enjoys the club scene and also the competition element. By taking part in international salons and eventually getting to a point of winning a lot of Gold Medals and other awards, it has helped in developing and understanding what does well and catches a judges eye. Winning an individual Bronze medal in the FIAP World Cup for clubs a few years back is his proudest moment to date.

Ger’s work reflects his ever developing style and passion for learning, and to see the final images printed to a high standard on a variety of papers is what makes it all worth while.

He considers it an honour to have been asked to judge both at club level and above, and nothing gives him more pleasure than passing on what he has learnt to individuals and clubs alike in the wider photography community.
