Castleton & Hope Valley Photographic society is a small club: 35-40 members. If you are interested in photography, no matter what your level of competence you’ll find like minded people. Over the years we have justifiably acquired the reputation of being a friendly and supportive club, with the emphasis on making photography fun. Those who would like to improve their skills have the opportunity to learn from experienced enthusiasts or those who have been recognised for their technical and artistic skills (two of our members have received coveted silver medals from the Royal Society of Photography.) We sometimes hold workshops giving technical tips such as advice on using photography related software e.g. Photoshop and Lightroom. In addition a group of members regular meet in Bamford to view each other’s images (often on a theme).
Our monthly meetings regularly feature photographers with a regional or national reputation (e.g. the renowned and highly respected but now retired photo journalist Denis Thorpe, has made three presentations to our club.). In addition we regularly hold outdoor meetings, taking photographs and then socialise over a drink &/or a meal afterwards. From time to time we hold purely social (including others from member’s families) family meetings, with hardly a camera in sight.
Rather than having regular printed image or DPI competitions, we limit ourselves to an annual competition. This competition covers: general topics; themed topics; monochrome images (with or without a theme). These annual competition images are then exhibited locally, often at local churches during their Wakes Weeks.
