Solution:
If you have a 870, 890, 1270, 1290, 2100, 1800 or 2400 printer and the printer red light is on, it could be one of three problems…..
Firstly, you may have used a cartridge worth of ink in one printing session and what is required is to turn the printer off for 30 seconds and then turn on again. If this does not solve the issue then read on.
Secondly, one of your cartridge chips is not making a good connection and preventing you from continuing. Viewing the EPSON STATUS MONITOR will inform you if a cartridge is not working, its ink level and its seating condition (i.e. if it is not in properly, it will describe the cartridge as “not recognised or installed correctly”).
In this situation, (for 2 cartridge systems) you will need to press the yellow button to move the head over to the left. Then press down firmly on each cartridge between the tubes and the chip end of the cartridge. Make sure that you press down very firmly. If a good contact is made, the red light will begin to flash slowly. Press the yellow button once more, the head will return to the ready to print position after doing a clean and the red light should go out.
If the lifting problem persists, you may have to remove both cartridges and re-apply new seating material (Velcro) on each edge of the cartridges to make them fit tightly. Telephone us to buy more material if required.
On a multi cartridge system such as the 2100, it is more likely that the cartridges are badly positioned in a side to side plane as their downward seating is controlled by some click lugs. Press the ink change button so that you can access the cartridges. Move the one(s) that are lit up as red in a sideways movement. Press the ink change button again and let it reset. If the light remains red then repeat the procedure. You will eventually make good contact with the chip and pins and all lights will go out. Ensure that you clean the contacts on the chips using an ear bud or a soft cloth making sure you do not touch the contacts.
Thirdly, you may simply have run out of paper!. Refill paper feeder and try printing again.
