Poor Nozzle Pattern

Symptoms:

  • I tried to flush out the foamy ink using the recommended Air/Foam within Cartridge procedure, but I can't get any ink to come out.
  • I have lost one of my colours (usually black).

Solution:
Go back to the Air/Foam within Cartridge solution and follow it down to the point where you try to pull ink out of the bottom of the cartridge using a syringe with a winged fill adapter.

If you meet a lot of resistance when pulling back on the syringe plunger and no ink is flowing into your syringe, then, you most likely have a blocked line. (Also check you have removed the syringe end cap!!)

If you have a system with a barbed fitting on the top of the cartridge you shall need to remove the tube from the barbed fitting on the top of the cartridge. This can be difficult so take care. Use a small screwdriver to help prise it off and pull with restrained force in line with the direction of the barbed fitting.

When the tube pulls off, it may fling ink so cover your hand so, shield the fitting with a cloth or rag to capture the ink that may splash. If you pull straight, the tube will come off without damaging the cartridge fitting.

At this point, you may be able to flush the tube with the syringe. Fill the syringe with warm water.
Lift the tube from the appropriate ink bottle and place it into a small vessel.
Insert the syringe into the end of the tube. Push the warm water straight down the tube into the small vessel. Repeat this procedure as necessary until the tube look clear and has no restrictions.

Re-attach everything and re-insert cartridges and proceed to head cleaning and nozzle checks as recommended.
