Red or Alternate Flashing Light

Do you see a red or alternate flashing light on your system?

Symptoms:

  • I can't get the red or alternate flashing red & green light on the printer to go off.
  • I click on the cleaning cycle start button, but nothing happens.
  • When I cancel a print job, the red light on the printer comes on.
  • When I reboot my computer the printer red light comes on.

Solution:

If you have a 1270, 1290, 2100, 1800 or 2400 printer and the printer red light is on, it could be one of the following...

Firstly, you may have used a cartridge worth of ink in one printing session and what is required is to turn the printer off for 30 seconds and then turn on again. If this does not solve the issue then read on.

Secondly, one of your cartridge chips is not making a good connection and preventing you from continuing. Viewing the EPSON STATUS MONITOR will inform you if a cartridge is not working, its ink level and its seating condition (i.e. if it is not in properly, it will describe the cartridge as "not recognised or installed correctly").In this situation, (for the 1270/1290 systems) you will need to press the yellow button to move the head over to the left. Then press down firmly on each cartridge between the tubes and the chip end of the cartridge. Make sure that you press down very firmly. If a good contact is made, the red light will begin to flash slowly. Press the yellow button once more, the head will return to the ready to print position after doing a clean and the red light should go out.If the red light problem persists, you may have to remove both cartridges and re-apply new seating material (Velcro) on each edge of the cartridges to make them fit tightly, if this is the system you have, telephone us to buy more material if required. If you have the Eco-Flo system then try twisting the injectors towards the chip block to make a firm contact between the chips & pins in the head unit, the red light should begin to flash slowly. Press the yellow button and the head will return to the ready position.

On a multi cartridge system such as the 2100, 2400, it is more likely that the chip blocks are badly positioned and not making a firm contact with the pins within the head unit. Press the ink change button so that you can access the injectors. Push down firmly on the injector(s) that is not registering the one(s) that are lit up as red. Now press the ink change button again and let it reset. If the light remains red then repeat the procedure. You will eventually make good contact with the chip and pins and all lights will go out. You may simply have run out of paper!. Refill paper feeder and try printing again.

If at any point you experience an alternate flashing red and green light condition or a service maintenance error message, please check your Epson status monitor to establish what the error message refers to. Many printers can now be reset with the aid of some simple software that can be obtained FREE from the web to override these error messages. If you are unable to resolve the problem from the status monitor then please call us on the first instance for support, failure to do so may invalidate your PermaJet Eco-Flo system warranty.
